Episode 062 (14th July 2012)

Posted by Rob, July 17, 2012 5:09 pm

Not even treacherous weather and a car accident can hold back the Saladcast. We’re like a riderless horse at the Grand National.

Rob plays a lot more pinball and keeps chugging through Mass Effect 3, Zac investigates the current indie darling Spelunky (kinda) and good old game The Settlers 2 and Dan finally gets round to playing Total War: Shogun 2.

In this Podcast:

Battlefield 3, Breath of Death VII, Call of Duty 2, Cthulu Saves the World, Fez, Guild Wars 2, Mass Effect 3, Minecraft, NiGHTS Into Dreams HD, Ouya, Pinball Arcade, Reflections, Screamer 2, Spelunky, Steam, Team Fortress 2, The Settlers 2, Total War: Shogun 2, Williams Hall of Fame, and more!

Episode 061 (1st July 2012) Cyril Pyroshepard

Posted by Rob, July 5, 2012 10:16 am

I feel culturally obliged now that it is Summer in England to complain about the heat. It’s not been a nice heat. It’s like a thick sauna heat. Fortunately it seems to make some of our podcast discussions a little more deranged.

Zac plays just about as many games as he possibly could this week so strap in for Penny Arcade, Paper Mario, Micro Machines, Pikmin and Cyril Cyberpunk (!!!) mixed in with the occasional input from Rob and Dan about Mass Effect 3, Fez, Bastion and of course TF2.

I am open to offers for my alternative power source.

In this Podcast:

Bastion, Civilisation IV, Civilisation V, Cyril Cyberpunk, Fez, Guild Wars 2, iOS, Mass Effect 3, Micro Machines V4, Nexus 7, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 1, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 2, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 3, Pikmin 2, Surface, Team Fortress 2, and more!

Episode 060 (16th June 2012) Diabolic Fez Guild

Posted by Rob, June 17, 2012 8:39 pm

Dan is off once again this week so we welcome back our now regular stand-in Kippers. With E3 gone we can get back to what we normally do. Trying to sound like we know something about vidja games.

Kippers mixes things up and goes Blizzard mad with Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Zac gives a sneak peek at Guild Wars 2 thanks to the recent beta weekend and then goes all retro as usual. Rob mainly talks Fez and attempts to be a host of gaming podcast with some semblance of professionalism… and fails.

In this Podcast:

Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Command & Conquer: Generals, Cut The Rope: Experiments HD, Cyril Cyberpunk, Diablo 3, Fez, Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Mass Effect 3, Minecraft, Sim Golf, Starcraft 2, Torchlight, Wii U, World in Conflict, Xbox Smart Glass, and more!

Posted by Rob, June 11, 2012 2:55 pm

Oh yeah, it’s THAT time. Tune in as we give our impressions of the biggest gaming event of the year. Listen to the fails, the mistakes and the “meh” of every conference.

Oh and we didn’t do a follow up show yet. Just saying if you find the ending confusing.

In this Podcast:

Assassin's Creed 3, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, Beyond: Two Souls, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Crysis 3, Dance Central 3, Far Cry 3, God of War: Ascension, Halo 4, Just Dance 4, LocoCycle, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. Episode 058 (16th May 2012) Bowmerang

Posted by Rob, May 27, 2012 12:05 pm

In this week’s episode we witness the decline in wit and intelligence of the team as the summer heat sets in. Rob seems to forget how arguments work. We’d open a window but we’re not sure the sound of traffic and children playing is really what this podcast is going for.

Games covered this week include Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Anomaly: Warzone Earth and Cannon Cat from Rob, Minecraft and Eve from Zac and Bastion from Dan.

On the bright side, E3 is soon!

In this Podcast:

Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Bastion, Cannon Cat, Diablo 3, Eve, Minecraft, Ms Splosion Man, Rocket Fox, Sonic 4: Episode II, The Pinball Arcade, and more!

Episode 057 (12th May 2012) Bastion of Pincraft Joylight

Posted by Rob, May 13, 2012 1:14 pm

You can blame Rob’s crappy back for the lateness of this cast. Thanks to powerful painkillers he is now “back” and casting can recommence. Being able to move is definitely a plus.

Once again we are joined by Kippers to discuss his recent involvement in PC gaming in the form of DiRT 3, Battlefield 3 and Blacklight: Retribution. Dan plays “indie” darling of last year Bastion. Rob buys an iPad and starts investigating the casual in the form of Tiny Tower, Jetpack Joyride and then comes back to his senses with The Pinball Arcade. Zac does Zac stuff in Minecraft and Eve.

In this Podcast:

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Bastion, Battlefield 3, Blacklight: Retribution, DiRT 3, Eve, Jetpack Joyride, Max Payne 3, Minecraft, Ms Splosion Man, Psycho Pinball, Team Fortress 2, The Pinball Arcade, Tiny Tower, and more!

Episode 056 (20th April 2012) Brotherhood of Mass

Posted by Rob, April 22, 2012 12:36 pm

Casting at night after a hard week at work does have some side effects. When Rob doesn’t speak, Rob is asleep. That mental picture may help in some way. Not sure what it would help and why you need help but this is our gift to the world… thoughtless assistance… yes. We are tired.

Dan attempts to talk more spoiler free Mass Effect 3 and provides first impressions of Tribes: Ascend, Rob starts with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (*audible sigh*) and Space Invaders Infinity Gene and Zac talks about “Free-To-Play MMO Bullet Hell Shooter” Realm of the Mad God. Also includes a bit of news from PAX, Captivate and other rumblings.

In this Podcast:

0x10c, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dishonored, Fez, Grid Runner, Halo 4, Lost Planet 3, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 3, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 3, Pinball Arcade, Realm of the Mad God, Resident Evil 6, Sonic Generations, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Starbound, Street Fighter X Tekken, Tribes: Ascend, and more!

Episode 055 (7th April 2012) Duke’s Mass Splosion

Posted by Rob, April 8, 2012 7:32 pm

If you detect any lethargy in this week’s episode you can blame it entirely on a Mr. Hut. We do take the show very seriously but pizza comes first. Viva la cheese!

Zac picks up show favourite Blur and gives it a spin on PC, Rob finishes with Duke Nukem Forever and returns to sploding and Dan edges closer to the controversial Mass Effect 3 ending we don’t want him to tell us anything about.

Isn’t rain nice when you’re not in it. Aah.

In this Podcast:

Blur, DiRT 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Dust 514, Dwarf Fortress, Eve, Mass Effect 3, Minecraft, Ms Splosion Man, Ridge Racer Unbounded, and more!

Episode 054 (24th March 2012) Mass RAGE

Posted by Rob, March 25, 2012 9:40 pm

It’s sunny in March which spells bad news for people who look forward to a good summer. Britain always seems to punish the traditional months of warm climate when they play their cards only. Doesn’t bother us though. We got games to play and shade to cling to.

Dan attempts to give us a spoiler free feel for the start of Mass Effect 3 and it’s mechanics (can’t promise we won’t spoil the other two games though) and Rob finishes RAGE and moves onto the critically critiqued Duke Nukem Forever.

PS. We used Penguin as a biscuit.

In this Podcast:

Diablo 3, Duke Nukem Forever, iPad, Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Minecraft, Planetside 2, Po'd, Rage, S.P.A.Z and Bounty Hunters, S.P.A.Z., Sonic 4: Episode II, Soul Calibur 5, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Torchlight 2, and more!

Episode 053 (10th March 2012) GDC It?

Posted by Rob, March 12, 2012 11:49 am

To make up for the lack of Dan, we’re throwing in another SaladCast absolutely free! Season 3 is so on.

GDC has been happening so there’s an extra dose of news to discuss. Will Sim City 5 be any good? Has KARA won the animation wars? Are 343 Industries trying too hard? In addition to this Rob uses his Kinect for fitness with Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 (horrible name) and Zac plays Bejeweled. Odd week.

I hope somebody gets the terrible title pun.

In this Podcast:

Bejeweled, Bejeweled Blitz, Everybody Votes, Halo 4, KARA, NVidia, Rage, Sim City 5, Sonic 4: Episode II, Wii, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012, and more!

Episode 052 (4th March 2012) RAGE 4 Radio

Posted by Rob, March 5, 2012 8:18 pm

Due to my spending most of this weekend away from Salad HQ, getting Dan to the “studio” proved tricky. Zac was not amused and a German part came forth exclaiming “ve must not fall behind!” So what we have here is another cast featuring Kippers from MagicTheGatheringUK and his lovely hand model Jam Jarrr.

Rob continues his RAGE, Zac and Jam talk Minecraft 1.2 and Kippers gives his opinion on arena shooter Nexuis having gone back to a stint of Left 4 Dead, dreaming of more good co-op games. Also it’s not really a video game podcast without some Skyrim talk… dammit.

In this Podcast:

Angry Birds in Space, Beasts and Bumpkins, Dwarf Fortress, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Jamestown, Jet Set Radio HD, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect 3, Minecraft, Monday Night Combat, Nexuis, Rage, Sim City 5, Sonic 4: Episode II, SSX, Team Fortress 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD, Torchlight, Trials Evolution, Zynga, and more!

Episode 051 (18th February 2012) Scrolls of Uncharted Dwarfs

Posted by Rob, February 19, 2012 2:54 pm

It was exhausting, but we have recovered ourselves a Dan to bring back the structure we crave. Admittedly our structure is a bit like a paper tower in the rain, yet still we crave its moist sanctuary.

After a brief recap of the recent Vita reviews Dan continues bashing his way through Skyrim, Rob gets his finishing rants on Uncharted 3 and L.A. Noire out while Zac keeps us up to date on the essential Dwarf Fortress update.

In this Podcast:

Episode 050 (5th February 2012) Vita: LEGO Reckoning

Posted by Rob, February 8, 2012 9:13 am

This week, instead of cancelling the 50th episode of the SaladCast due to the snow stopping Dan from being present, we replaced him. Welcome to the fray DJ Kippling (a.k.a. Richard) from the MagicTheGatheringUK YouTube channel. Cross promotion y’all.

We talk the Vita this week and all the “shoulda woulda coulda” stuff after Kippers got some hands-on time, Zac investigates the Skyrim competitor in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Rob plays LEGO Harry Potter (no really).

In this Podcast:

Episode 049 (21st January 2012) XXX Dirt Tycoon

Posted by Rob, January 22, 2012 6:43 pm

The weight of the backlog is firmly upon us now. Fortunately it’s one of those points in the year where there’s a lull in the release schedule allowing us to begin the catchup. Although Zac seems to have gone a bit far with the idea.

Aside from starting a proper argument about DiRT 3 being potentially worse than DiRT 2 (somehow), Zac catches up with games he’s already played to death in the form of Rollercoaster Tycoon and the “relevant again” UFO: Enemy Unkown (the first X-COM, don-cha-know). Rob finishes Outland and gets a but further with Sonic Generations while Dan continues to lose himself in Skyrim.

In this Podcast:

Episode 048 (7th January 2012) LA Rimshift

Posted by Rob, January 8, 2012 8:54 pm

Bringing in the new year in the best way possible, like any other week, it’s time to start tackling that backlog. It’s like plumbing that you never fixed properly and gurgles to you in the night, tormenting you into submission with the stench of guilt. I hope that’s guilt…

For a game we’re still a tiny bit ‘meh’ over we don’t half talk about it a bit. Skyrim is indeed mysterious in its ways. Dan gets in on the discussion this time as Zac tries to figure out how you play the game sensibly. Rob finishes up on Timeshift, gushes about Sonic Generations and questions the direction of L.A. Noire. Dan wraps things up with some cardcasting in Magic The Gathering and goes in circles with F1 2011.

Episode 047 (28th December 2011) GOTY

Posted by Rob, December 29, 2011 11:02 am

Oh ho ho? What is this? Why it’s only the 2011 Game of the Year Awards!

In what has been a ridiculously good year for games a lot of these decisions were tougher than ever (or at least one time before). Who disappointed us the most? Who tickled our ear canals with its sweet melodies? What should we have played? And of course, what is the official SaladCast GOTY? All this and more in this bumper episode.

In this Podcast:

3DS, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Bastion, Battlefield 3, Blur, Brink, Bulletstorm, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Child of Eden, Crysis 2, Dead Space 2, DiRT 3, Dragon Age 2, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, Eve, Forza Motorsport 4, Gears of War 3, Infamous 2, Killzone 3, Kinect, L.A. Noire, Magicka, Minecraft, Mortal Kombat, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Outland, Portal 2, Rayman Origins, Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, Resistance 3, Saints Row The Third, Skyrim, Sonic Generations, SpaceChem, Star Wars The Old Republic, Super Mario 3D Land, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Terraria, The Baconing, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, The Witcher 2, Trine 2, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Uncharted 3, Virtua Tennis 4, You Don't Know Jack, and more!

Episode 046 (22nd December 2011) Arkham Noire Time

Posted by Rob, December 23, 2011 1:37 pm

In this, the last proper cast of the year before the GOTY event kicks off we totally forget to wish you a happy festive season or some equivalent. So enjoy your time off work and enjoy it even more when you listen to this, The SaladCast.

Rob catches up with L.A. Noire and the overlooked Timeshift, Dan glides around Arkham City and Zac tries to put off a few more Skyrim rants to talk Indie and Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand.

So happy fun times! Zac says “Eff ’em” BTW. Cheery.

In this Podcast:

Episode 045 (10th December 2011) Rimbo

Posted by Rob, December 11, 2011 1:37 pm

As festive season grows ever closer do we start to show a more generous side to game banter? Heck no!

Listen to Zac tear Skyrim a new one. Rob covers some tennis titles (thanks to friend of the show Eddie), a bit of Uncharted 3 and a couple of Arcade gems leaving Dan scurry around in the third portion of DiRT some more.

In this Podcast:

Episode 044 (27th November 2011) DiRT3y Mine-icka

Posted by Rob, November 28, 2011 9:16 am

I was highly tempted just to leave it at that. It does aptly describe the content of Codemasters’ seminal racing series, and your mind.

On top of all that glorious filth, we talk about Magicka, Battlefield 3 and some finishing notes on Deus Ex. And Rob forgets his own rules and talks about those goddamn assassins some more.

In this Podcast:

Episode 043 (13th November 2011) Rimward Sonic

Posted by Rob, November 14, 2011 8:31 pm

It is indeed Sonic time! Like there was any way we were going to pass on the biggest release of the year. Oh what’s that? You want a Skyrim or CoD review? Shove it! For now those games spark a debate on games reviewing in general. Lament.

Also covered is Battlefield 3, Mortal Kombat and… well that’s about it.

Weird that we didn’t talk about the unoffcial SaladCast firework event of last week. You’ll just have to ponder the meaning of “cubes of dissapointment”.
