SaladCast 100 (1st January 2014) – Game of the Year 2013

It’s a biggie! The milestone of 100 episodes has been reached and by total luck it’s also time to sort out the weak from the guff as we do The SaladCast GOTY Awards 2013! Get hype!

It should come as no shock that there will be spoilers and dumb decisions ahead. You have been warned.

    Stop moaning about Crimson Dragon and play it! People that actually play it say its really good (well around 7/10 good) if you liked the old ones and the micro transaction stuffs is not detrimental at all and can be ignored. Sounds like you’ve jumped the gun on it without giving it a chance. Also from watching people play it i cant see anything wrong with it comapred to the old ones.

    While I have no doubt that I would get some enjoyment from it there are too many design decisions that I don’t agree with to ignore. If the game was Free to Play then I’m sure it would have received a better average than 56/100 (metacritic). The drop system between runs artificially gates progress by a random artificial factor instead of any skill or sense of accomplishment. The look of the game is indicative of it’s slightly troubled dev cycle from being a 360 Kinect game to a “just sharper” next gen title. Finally the gameplay, at least from what I’ve seen of the early game, looks a little clumsy and unmanageable. This is partly due to some control decisions that remove some of the better ideas from the Orta controls. All of this is somewhat baffling when the dev team is made up of a number of guys who worked on the Panzer series.
    Ultimately yes, I should play it to form a more accurate viewpoint but none of the above points contribute to a good rail shooter and stand as disappointing.
